Public to Participate in Governors Island Planning Process

The 172-acre island, in the center of New York Harbor, just a quarter mile from Red Hook and a half-mile from Battery Park, is going to get a facelift, and the public is being given an opportunity to voice its preferences for future development.

Hmmm. An uninhabited island will receive community input, that's great to hear. But the densely populated nexus of five neighborhoods in Brooklyn is not being granted that right.
Mr. Ratner wants to avoid all community and legislative oversight by bypassing the normal city review procedure known as ULURP (Uniform Land Use Review Procedure) [pdf].
